HARLEY DAVIDSON::1942 HARLEY XA
This is a 45” machine. There were only 1000 of them produced during the war at the direction of the government procurement office. The horizontally opposed BMW and Zundap were performing quite well in the North African desert and the allies wanted to be on equal ground. Harley’s answer from the Experimental Department was the XA model, a 45 cubic inch horizontally opposed side valve twin with shaft drive and four speed foot-operated gearbox with hand clutch control.
This machine has been sitting for over 25 years in central California. The current owner cleaned ansd serviced it and it is ready to go! The machine is road worthy.as recently completely gone through mechanically and brought close to military specs.
MILEAGE: The machine has about 250 miles since the new tuning.
PAINT: The original paint has been sprayed over. Military rough quality.
SHEETMETAL: Excellent with a few dings. Original patina chrome.
MECHANICAL: Runs great and is very reliable. Easy starting and smooth at speed. The transmission needs some fine tuning.
