Overview

1948 Indian 648 Daytona Scout Factory Race Motorcycle

Rarest of the rare! This one is real. Only 25 of these Indian factory racers were built-very few “real” ones remain. The model 648 “big base” won the 1948 Daytona 200 race the first year it was campaigned by factory. This motorcycle has been restored to ,as delivered condition, from the factory in 1948 .The exceptions being the pillion seat and number plates. The engine interior in this motorcycle has been highly modified for racing by the late Bill Hess at Hess Machine Works in Rockford, Illinois during the 1950′s. The cases are stamped outside and in the cam box by Bill Hess who was one of the countries foremost builders of Indian Scout racing engines. The motorcycle has been judged senior at 98 points and Winners Circle several times by the AMCA. It has been featured in Jerry Hatfield’s book ‘The History of the Indian Scout’. Also featured in the Classic Motorcycle Magazine in April 1999. According to records held by Jim Sutter of Sugar Grove ,Florida , FDH-141 was ridden by Bernie Patient out of Bellville, Illinois. This motorcycle has won many awards, in many shows and is well known both nationally and internationally
