Overview
This is a 1000cc 4 cylinder 1953 Ariel Square Four Mk II. It has spent the last 28 years in a garage in “the Valley” in Los Angeles. Covered by a blanket and deep in the back, this fine machine tolerated the storage well. The bike was found right beneath the noses of a couple of well known Ariel Square owners and they never knew it was there! The owner died in the early 80’s and the family finally decided to sell the bike and parts. The bike was stored with fresh oil. It has been serviced and wiped down. Everything works including the lights and horn! It fires on first kick and is very smooth through the gears. This fine machine is in need of a new home and a good polishing job. It is an excellent example of an original 1953 Ariel Square Four Mk II.
Mileage
The machine speedometer shows 36465. The Speedo appears to be working fine!
Paint
The paint appears to be original. It has a few dings and scratches but holds a shine well and just needs a fresh coat of wax. Take a good look at the pictures.
Sheet Metal
Original sheet metal. Take a good look at the pictures. Clean, neat, and well fitting. Minimal dings. There are 4 holes on the top of the rear fender which must be from a large seat or a luggage rack?
Chrome
Excellent shape with minimal oxidation. Should come up well with a good cleaning and polish.
Mechanical
The machine has been tuned by a knowledgeable mechanic and runs great. The word on an Ariel is that the sludge holes of the crank need to be cleaned out when they sit for long periods. The original battery box was hollowed out to hold a modern dry cell battery and is good to go. Appearance is outstanding! No funny noises!
