Honda CB500 Four – History
The Honda CB500 Four was introduced in 1971 and produced through 1974. It was part of Honda's iconic CB series, following in the footsteps of the revolutionary CB750 Four, but with a smaller 498cc engine.
The CB500 Four was praised for:
-
Its refined four-cylinder engine (uncommon in midsize bikes at the time)
-
Excellent balance between performance and handling
-
Smooth ride, thanks to its inline-four engine and 5-speed gearbox
-
Being an affordable and more manageable alternative to the CB750
Though only produced for a few years, it became a classic and led to the development of the CB550, which succeeded it in 1974–1975.
